Financial Operations Associate
About Bright Harbor
Bright Harbor empowers communities to recover from disaster. Our platform reveals what survivors need, launches programs that get aid moving quickly, and coordinates every stakeholder so a community can work as one.
Our mission is to help every disaster survivor find their way home. We put them at the center of their recovery and give the governments serving them real-time visibility into every case, every gap, and every step forward.
Disasters are getting bigger and more frequent, and helping communities survive them and thrive is the challenge of our time. We build for the moment everything else falls apart. If you want your work to matter on the hardest days people will ever face, come build with us.
About the job
We're bringing our financial operations and compliance operations in-house and this role will own it.
Today many of our financial and compliance tasks are spread out across multiple consultants, agencies and internal owners. This includes our monthly close, card management, payroll, cash tracking, invoicing, equity records, and multi-state registrations. You'll consolidate all of it into one well-run function that you own end to end. You'll have access to a fractional CFO to help with close and review bigger financial decisions with leadership, and with outside counsel on legal work. You'll own the day-to-day operations.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for someone a few years into a finance or accounting career who wants to own something real and grow with it. It's designed as a path to real personal growth.
What you'll do
What You'll Do
Own the monthly close and deliver clean, accurate numbers each month with our fractional CFO reviewing and advising on judgment calls
Manage expenses on Ramp, reviewing and categorizing charges, keep spending under control and bucketed appropriated for client reimbursement reports
Run payroll through our PEO accurately and on schedule
Track our financial forecasts weekly so leadership always has a clear view of what is happening
Manage accounts receivable: send invoices, track them, and follow up on outstanding payments
Manage equity and cap table management on Carta
Own multi-state registration and contract execution: get us registered in the billing, tax, and vendor systems each state requires and keep those current
Maintain a centralized tracker of procurement requirements, milestones, deadlines, and contracting status and coordinate with sales team to ensure compliance
Build and maintain the systems and calendar that keep all of this running reliably
Grow into deeper ownership of our finance operations and strategy over time
About you
2 to 4 years in finance or accounting at an operating company or startup finance team, ideally somewhere you saw the full operational picture rather than one narrow slice
Fluency with the modern startup finance tools: QuickBooks, Ramp, Mercury, Justworks, Carta, plus the ability to learn new tools quickly
The ability to analyze the numbers, not just produce them. You can look at our P&L and identify what to watch and what to flag, and you'll grow into building that model yourself
Strong ownership and initiative. You move things forward without waiting to be told what to do
Exceptional accuracy, efficiency and organization in how you do work.
Comfort managing a compliance calendar and keeping many details current across multiple states
A desire to grow into a finance leadership role and take on more responsibility as you earn it
Genuine care for the mission
